Elan Spa

crack

Should I take my cossie with me to visit the brand new Elan Spa at the Greenway Spa Hotel? Unfortunately it doesn’t open until April 18 so I’ll have to wait to take a dip in the giant hydrotherapy pool, one of the largest in the UK, but Spa Manager Isabel Murphy was happy to show me round.

Elan Spa is going to be the ‘place to be in Cheltenham’. It has every bit of luxury you can imagine. It is tastefully decorated, much of it showing the feature brickwork from the Orchard Wall belonging to the Old Coach House, which has been extended to provide ample space for its members. The neutral spa colours are enhanced by the sparkle tiles in all the wet rooms, which add that touch of glamour.

The Greenway Spa Hotel was taken over a few years ago by Von Essen Hotels who own three other Cotswold hotels - Buckland Manor near Broadway and Lower Slaughter Manor and Washbourne Court in the Slaughters and they are responsible for this stylish new retreat.

But what makes Elan Spa different from most other spas? The list is endless. Besides its impressive list of facilities, Elan Spa also exudes a sense of style and glamour which makes your time there even more unique and enjoyable. As well as the hydrotherapy pool, there will be a state-of-the-art fitness suite, a studio for relaxation and exercise classes such as Pilates and Yoga, one-to-one personal training sessions plus a thermal suite which includes a sauna, a steam room and a sanarium.

Then there are the experience showers exotically named Tropical Rain, Cold Mist and Caribbean Storm and three treatment rooms – all doubles so friends or couples can book treatments together.

The intention, Isabel told me, is to limit membership to 250 people at any one time so the Spa never becomes overcrowded.

Members will be able to enjoy all day dining in The Front Row Brasserie or have their nails manicured in the Sparkle Champagne nail bar. There will also be a retail boutique.

The hydrotherapy pool will look out onto the courtyard which will include an al fresco Hot Tub, a decked lounging area and landscaped gardens. The lounging area will have outdoor heating, so members will be able to enjoy it after the sun goes down and into the less sunny months of the year.

Having already taken a sneaky peak at the list of the facilities I had to ask, ‘What is a Kubel Dusche?’

‘Everyone asks that,’ Isabel said. ‘It’s a bucket of iced water which you tip over your head after relaxing in the warm pool.’ If you are very brave that is, or mad I thought. I think I’ll stick to the invigorating warm water jets of the hydrotherapy pool.

Elan Spa is situated at The Greenway Spa Hotel on the Shurdington Road. If you fancy getting a sneak preview before the public opening, why not come to the Elan Spa Open Day on April 17 from 1-4pm? Your chance to tour the luxurious Elan Spa, have a glass of bubbly and sample some mini treats from The Front Row Brasserie Menu. There will be exclusive offers on the day – including waiving the £150 joining fee.

As well as all the facilities, treatments and full spa days will be available, including Yummy Mummy days,
Sunrise Splendour, Spalight Delight, Radiant Bride to be Day and Man Space - a full day for men. There are different levels of membership from full or joint membership to Drive Time which is limited to certain hours and the 12 passes Passport.
