Supporting Charities crack

Our editorial this month is to inform The Cheltonian readers of the invaluable supportive work we have been doing recently with local charities. In these hard economic times Craig and I always keep in the forefront of our minds that there are many people less fortunate than us and it is essential to help support the charities that help these brave people.

Craig Derrick Photography Charity Diary

Monday 30th May – Craig Derrick Photography were delighted to be invited by Antonia Coles of Just the Tonic (Events) - www.jttevents.co.uk and Ros Martin of the Winchcombe Business Forum to have a stall at the Winchcombe Street Fair. Despite the poor weather, the great British spirit brought the visitors and supporters out to the sound of over 1000+ footfall, making it a huge success. During the day our photographer photographed all the stall holders with the offer to purchase these images as mounted prints and image on disc for their websites for just £10, donating £5 from each sale to Winston’s Wish (www.winstonswish.org.uk). Winston’s Wish is the leading childhood bereavement charity and the largest provider of services to bereaved children, young people and their families in the UK. They offer practical support and guidance to families, professionals and anyone concerned about a grieving child as they believe that the right support at the right time can enable young people to live with their grief and rebuild positive futures.

Friday 3rd June – was the Cobalt Fashion Show and Dinner at Holiday Inn Express organised between Kimberley Hatherall and Mary Peterson from Cobalt. Cobalt (www.cobalthealth.co.uk) is a local medical charity that was founded in 1964. Over the years it has been able to support the NHS with £millions worth of equipment and services helping people affected by cancer and other life-limiting conditions. Their Cheltenham Imaging Centre provides diagnosis and treatment planning not usually available in local hospitals and mobile MRI units travel throughout the region and beyond, taking the very best imaging technology to people in their own area. They offer free training and education courses to doctors, health-care professionals and the public, ensuring many years of experience, research and cancer prevention work is widely shared. The guest speaker at the Fashion Show was Sarah Cook of Stylus Parties – the revolutionary party service that brings professional, personal stylists straight to your home - www.stylusparties.co.uk. Clothing and models were provided by Matalan, Peacocks and Dottie Chic. We provided our photography services, free of charge, and supplied Cobalt, Holiday Inn Express, Stylus Parties, Dottie Chic, Matalan and Peacocks with a disc each, of professional full copyright images taken at this fundraising event to use to update their web-sites. Mary Peterson from Cobalt’s review was “Craig Derrick Photography Ltd have photographed a number of Cobalt charity events for free. They are friendly and professional and always produce high quality images. We are incredibly grateful to them for their support and generosity and would definitely recommend their services.”

Sunday 5th June – we were privileged to be offered a stall at Well Child’s Family Fun Day at Ozleworth Park Estate. Well Child (www.wellchild.org.uk) is a national charity that helps sick children and their families throughout the UK to manage the consequences of serious illness and complex health conditions through their programme of care, support and research. We attended (again in the rain) as Sonic the Hedgehog and provided images on disc of this breathtaking setting and event to the organiser – Laura Milne. Laura’s shining review was “Craig and Katrina are fabulous and fun. They attended the WellChild Family Fun Day event at Ozleworth Park Estate on Sunday 5th June. They were so kind to take photos and allow our charity to use them. The photos were amazing! Not only that, they were real fun. Katrina was dressed as Sonic the Hedge Hog which was brilliant and added that something a bit special for the children on such a wet day; it certainly kept peoples spirits up. They were very professional and the photos just prove that. Thank you so much for their support and I hope we can work together again very soon.”

Thursday 9th June – was a day at the stunning Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel for the James Hopkins Trust Charity Golf Day to raise invaluable donations for the James Hopkins Trust (www.jameshopkinstrust.org.uk) a charity which provides practical help for severely disabled, life threatened and life limited young children with nursing needs, aged 5 years and under, living in Gloucestershire. The charming Vance Hopkins and Colin Stoner organised a superb day for 50 businessmen from the surrounding area to compete in an 18 hole course tournament (teams of 3 or 4) at the Hilton Puckrup Hall Golf Club provided by Edward Litchfield, Director of Golf. Craig Derrick Photography provided our team of two professional photographers and an editor to record the enjoyable events of the day from Tee Off, Swing Shots, Course Shots, Team Shots, and Prize Giving Dinner. The General Manager of the Hilton Puckrup Hall Hotel popped by the dinner to ensure all was satisfactory and that we were having a good time – a lot of banter and ribbing about the days play was had. We donated our professional services for free and sold our stunning 9” x 6” Mounted Professional Prints and Images on Disc from the day to the attendees for just £10 – donating £5 from each sale to James Hopkins Trust. Colin Stoner’s review was “We were delighted with Craig Derrick Photography’s contribution to our charity golf day. Their team were highly visible and available throughout the day without being obtrusive and created a good rapport with the participants, the Director of Golf and other key hotel staff. They carried out the brief we had agreed to the letter to ensure maximum coverage of the key moments throughout the day. We very much hope that they will work with us again in the future.”

Saturday 11th June - St John’s Primary School (www.st-johns-pri.gloucs.sch.uk) Fun Day to raise money for this local school close to our heart. Last year we provided the school with our professional time and images to Lisa Jones who brilliantly organised the Fun Day to update their web-site and school newsletter. Lisa Jones’ review was “Craig and Katrina came to our school fun day and were professional, efficient and very friendly from start to finish. We were so thrilled to receive a selection of photos which they generously gave to us as a memory of our event.” For this year’s Fun Day Katrina dressed up as Sonic the Hedge Hog to be photographed with the children providing the parents with prints to take home with them of their children having a laugh with Sonic! We also donated a Gift Voucher for the School Raffle for a 2 Hour Professional Family Studio Shoot at Craig Derrick Photography to include framed prints worth £200. This prize was won by Sandra and Alex Finnerty and this year’s Fun Day raised an impressive £1300 for this friendly primary school.

Following St John’s Primary School Fun Day we changed into our evening wear to attend the James Bond Theme Summer Ball at Hatherley Manor Hotel for the parents, hardworking teachers and energetic PTA volunteers of St Edward’s Junior School (www.stedwards.co.uk/junior). This Summer Ball was to raise invaluable funds for Battledown Centre for Children and Families in Cheltenham (www.battledown.gloucs.sch.uk). Battledown Centre is a unique school providing specialist assessment of children between the ages of 0 to 7 and covering the whole range of additional needs. This annual fundraising event was organised by the school PTA, headed up by Libby Reichwald with her team, husband Simon Reichwald, Debbie Matravers & Nicky Price. It involved pre-dinner drinks, sit down dinner for 150+ guests, table games, a charity auction (prizes donated by Great British Card Company, Mu - Simon Hall’s fab new steak burger and salad place on Regent Street, Kitchen Kind, Hirani Hair, Cowley Manor, Ellensborough Park, Intersport, Andy Tucker Football) and after dinner dancing. This fabulous and elegant evening went on past midnight and raised £4,000 for the Battledown Centre for Children and Families. The Craig Derrick Photography involvement was to photograph willing couples and groups, dressed up in their finery to purchase a stunning 9” x 6” Mounted Professional Print for just £10 – donating £5 from each sale to the Battledown Centre - as a perfect momentum of a wonderful evening. Libby Reichwald’s review on Craig Derrick Photography services was “From the moment we booked Craig Derrick Photography for our School Charity Ball, we knew we were in safe, professional hands. Craig and Katriona knew exactly what we wanted with very little in-put from us and it was so reassuring to know that they had everything covered and were great fun to work with. We will definitely use their services next year and would recommend them to anyone”.

So as you can see it has been a busy but amazingly fun month for Craig Derrick Photography, attending an array of fundraising events for numerous charities and worthy causes.
