Flashback To The 1930s crack

With the world’s focus rarely shifting from ladies’ fashion, men’s style is often overlooked. But that’s all about to change – male grooming has never been more topical as the key summer trend sees a return to history’s most glamorous era, a time when gentlemen really looked the part. All hail the 1930s!

The era defined Hollywood glamour, exemplified by some of tinseltown’s most celebrated leading men - Clark Gable, Gary Cooper and Cary Grant. Famous for their breathtaking good looks, the men of this era’s coiffed signature short back and sides took suave sophistication to a new level.

Flash forward the best part of a century, and here we are again – the 1930s slick style is back with modern ferocity. Everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Mad Men’s John Hamm is rocking the look. And the good news, is that according to Philip Lester, Creative Director at Scene – The Salon in Charlton Kings, it’s a cinch to create at home!

Get the look

At your next visit to the Salon explain you’re going for a 1930s look - a short back and sides with a little more length on top. The key to this style is the parting as this gives the look its meticulous sharpness.

Once the parting is made, sweep the hair back towards the nape of the neck, then secure with some heavy duty styling product. Simple!

Note – This look must be well groomed and cut regularly ensuring the hair doesn’t reach the nape of the neck when brushed back.

Top tip – If you’re determined to recreate the 1930s look, team your new do with a dapper hat and perfectly groomed facial hair. The ladies will be swooning!
