Montpellier Wine Bar Celebrates

Iconic Cheltenham venue The Montpellier Wine Bar has appointed a highly experienced general manager, Jonathan Ritchie, to oversee all operations as it continues to offer exceptional quality and service to customers.

With over 30 years of industry experience, Jonathan Ritchie has successfully managed a large portfolio of bars, restaurants and hotels throughout his career. Jonathan’s great understanding of high-end food and beverage production, accompanied with his hands on managerial style, mark exciting times ahead for the Wine Bar.

The bar is known locally in Cheltenham as the place to be seen and is famed for its imaginative food, fine wines and priceless ambience, offering a cosmopolitan venue for drinks, dinner and socialising.

This celebrated wine bar has been a prominent part of the Montpellier ‘village’ since it pulled its first cork in 1977. Owned by Andrew Billington, it is firmly established as the sophisticated centre of the Montpellier and Cheltenham social scene.

The bar was recently praised for the high quality of service, food and beverages offered to visitors by the Lonely Planet online, a website dedicated to travel advice, tips and destination reviews. Described as ‘slick, sophisticated and self-consciously cool’, by the independent online travel guide, the review also marks the bar as a place ‘where Cheltenham’s beautiful people come to hang out, sip wine and dine on modern British food’, with the author praising the extensive wine list and cask ales.

The Montpellier Wine Bar is an independent establishment which is constantly working hard to please its loyal customers, an ethos demonstrated in the appointment of the new general manager.

Owner Andrew Billington is delighted to welcome Jonathan Ritchie and hopes that his appointment will bring a new level of expertise and innovation to the future of the wine bar, further improving on its already distinguished reputation and success.

The wine bar now has a busy time ahead after announcing that it will be back at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival during the summer of 2011. The world’s oldest cricket festival will be in action at Cheltenham College from 20th-31st July and The Montpellier Wine Bar has its own pitch side marquee offering 2 and 3 course lunches, afternoon tea and tapas during each day of the festival, as well as offering its superb range of fine wines, Champagnes and beer.

A Champagne breakfast or full Gloucester breakfast will be available at the Wine Bar in Montpellier in the morning before visitors head to the cricket ground. The marquee will also be available for birthday, anniversary and work parties offering a sit down meal, a buffet service or a BBQ to guests.
