A Chorus Line
The path to success in the performing arts industry is a long and hardworking one, the current trend for ‘get famous quick’ shows is misleading, and it’s not as simple as standing in line to wait for Simon Cowell et al to get your break.
The students at Gloucestershire’s college Performing Arts know this, and they have taken their first steps in the path to success, the proper, hard, sweat and blood way – by enrolling on a course at the college and learning the skills to help them perform to a live audience in a full scale musical.
They study dance, singing and drama every day of the week and the lecturers expect them to behave like professionals in and out of the classes. They work (and did I mention sweat?!) for 6 hours a day and this is how you train the body and mind to become a performer.
What they gain from this experience is not only technical skills but how to achieve something in life through sheer hard work and determination.
Recently the group attended a workshop in Central London lead by the education officer of Cameron Mackintosh – they worked on a emotional scene from the longest running musical in history – Les Miserables, the work they produced was so focused and emotionally moving that the education officer called to commend the college on their outstanding students and their dedication and attitude as well as talent!
Gloucestershire has got talent – REAL talent – you just won’t see it on your sofa on a Saturday night, but take yourselves to the theatre for a night of song, dance and laughs and you may just be
witnessing the stars of the future!
Gloucestershire College’s talented Musical Theatre students present their annual musical - A Chorus Line
In an empty theatre, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. For 16 dancers, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It’s what they’ve worked for - with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives. It’s the one opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed -- to have the chance to dance. This is A Chorus Line, the musical for everyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line. Winner of nine Tony Awards®, including “Best Musical” and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, this singular sensation is the longest-running American Broadway musical ever.
