Sara Alan-Smith

crack

Sara Alan-Smith is our Face of The Cheltonian this month after winning the female 30-50 category.

Friendly and bubbly Sara’s personality shines through in these photos. While speaking to her you can’t help but smile, as her enthusiasm for life is infectious.

So, how did Sara get involved in The Face of The Cheltonian?

“I had seen the banner up outside the Beechwood Shopping Centre advertising the shoot,” says Sara. “I went home and spoke to my housemate about it and we went down together to have our photo taken.”

With a huge number of votes Sara was joint winner in her category with Ali Chapman who both won a photo shoot with our photographer John, from Two Front Teeth Photography.

When Sara arrived for the shoot, initially she wasn’t too sure what to expect.

“This was my first time doing this kind of formal shoot and it felt a little weird. The photographers were great though; they made me feel really relaxed. I brought a whole load of clothes with me and they suggested a vintage theme, which I loved.”

Being under the studio lights is a world apart from Sara’s day job working for an animal welfare charity. Having previously worked in public relations, Sara decided to have a career change and make her love of animals into her job, and decided to study a degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare at Hartpury College.

“I was living in Reading when I enrolled in the degree and I asked everyone where I should move to be close to Hartpury; they all said Cheltenham. It’s a beautiful place to live.”

Sara is a true outdoors girl and has now settled into her new job helping dogs to get rehomed.

“I’m really enjoying my job, being outdoors and working with animals everyday is great. We get all kinds of dogs in from different backgrounds.

Some come in with medical or behavioural issues that we help them with, but many are simply looking for new homes due to owners change in circumstances.”

Even outside of work Sara takes in the fresh air with horse riding and running. This is a life far away from the office.
