Well Walk Tea Room

Emma Logan enjoys a unique experience in this family-run tea shop...

The Well Walk Tea Room, situated next to the historic St Mary’s Church and around the corner from the Cheltenham Museum, has to be the town’s best kept secret.

This delightful, family-run, tea room is adorned with fabulous, quirky décor of antiques, tapestries and pictures whilst you are taken into a world of nostalgia when you see a quintessential table, set with fine bone china and silver plated cutlery, the likes your grandparents would
have used.

A fabulous selection of traditional food is served including many gluten free options. Everything is homemade using the freshest ingredients. I started with a delicious pea, spinach and mint soup and my companion had a substantial tomato and lentil soup, all served with hunks of brown bread.

This was followed by a delightful asparagus quiche with light, delicate pastry and a little side salad of tomato, peppers and red onions.

We had to try the cakes. Oh my goodness they are just out of this world! Warm lemon drizzle cake with cream and the largest, tastiest scone with clotted cream and tasty homemade fruit jam.

Also available is an extensive selection of chunky sandwiches and traditional savouries such as Gentlemen’s Relish, Potted Stilton and a local two cheese Ploughman’s.

Whilst at the Well Walk Tea Room, you must take a visit downstairs to see the all-year-round Christmas room which has a fine selection of traditional decorations all made by the company who created the ‘Christmas set’ in the Christmas Day edition of Downton Abbey.

Throughout the two floors of the tea rooms you can browse through the eclectic antiques, wall hangings and tea sets, giving you plenty of gift ideas and cards for anytime of the year.

The Well Walk Tea Room is a true gem in Cheltenham and is also available for private parties and group gatherings for 8 or more people.
