Tony (the real) McCoy brought the 101st Cheltenham Festival to an amazing climax and once again highlighted how the fantastic race meeting puts our town in headlines around the world.

McCoy and his dramatic Gold Cup win on Synchronised and the unfortunate pulling up of Kauto Star were at the forefront of all the publicity this year, but with crowds averaging more than 50,000 every day of the four-day festival it makes everyone appreciate how one of the greatest events in the horse racing calendar gives our town so much prominence.

One of the ten horse sculptures, which helped celebrate Cheltenham’s historic racing links, is back on display in Beechwood for the second time. The lifesize sculpture, designed by mosaic craftswoman Carrie Richardson and artist Nick Reynolds, was placed in the shopping centre last summer to protect it from vandalism. Now the horse is being stabled again in Beechwood until a buyer is found.

While not all racegoers visit the town centre, many do, frequenting our hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues and this year was no exception. Visitors sometimes spend weekends before and after the races visiting our shops and often make return trips to the town for other events and festivals.

Hopefully they’ll be attracted back for the Easter weekend when they’ll discover plenty of activities going on and to enjoy Beechwood shopping centre as an attractive Bank Holiday shopping destination. Great Easter gifts are available in our shops such as Debenhams, Disney Store and Rise Records and of course Thorntons has yummy chocolate treats. The new iPad3 is available from Western Computer together with other Apple products and why not call in at Cargo to browse a range of exciting and contemporary ideas to transform your home. On the balcony level Game On sells and trades the latest video games and consoles and if a pamper treat is what you’re looking for, Destination Skin offers a range of skin care treatments.

Beechwood offers easy parking in the town centre and its 400-space car park has a car valet service on level 2a. The sat nav postcode to enter to find our car park is GL52 2RG. All you need to do is leave your car with Car Valet UK and they’ll clean it while you shop; it’s as simple as that. During the Easter holidays we will be open as normal on Good Friday, closed Easter Sunday and open 10.30am to 4.30pm on Easter Monday.
