Keith Lowe

Robins Defender Keith Lowe features in this month’s Cheltonian exclusive player interview.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional footballer, playing week in, week out for a Football League club? This month, we bring you the next in our series of our exclusive player interviews which delve deep into the world of the first team squad at your local club, Cheltenham Town FC.

Q. What was your first impression of Cheltenham when you first came?
A. I was impressed. We have really nice training ground with a lot of space to work, the stadium is great and it’s a lovely town which I always enjoy walking around.

Q. What car do you drive?
A. I drive a Nissan Qashqai because I need to fit all of the lads in. There’s a few of us who travel down and so we need a lot of room. My ideal car would be a bit more sleek, something like Aston Martin convertible!

Q. Favourite food and drink?
A. I enjoy a bit of pizza and we quite often get one after a game for the team coach! My favourite drink would be Strawberry Milkshake.

Q. Favourite fashion brand?
A. I bought a pair of Slazenger trainers recently and the lads have been taking the mickey so I’ll have to say them!

Q. Do you have any other favourite sports?
A. My mum and dad have got a pool table at I enjoy a few games of pool with my brothers over there.

Q. Who has had the biggest influence on your career?
A. My mum and dad to start with. They used to take me here, there and everywhere when I was young and gave me the chance to get into my football. More recently, Keith Downing, who was my youth team manager and probably biggest of all, Terry Connor, who helped me along as a kid at Wolves.

Q. Best player you have ever played with?
A. I played with Paul Ince and Dennis Irwin when I was at Wolves. They have both been there and done it so it was great to be able to learn from them.

Q. Played against/Toughest Opponent?
A. When I was young I played against Ole Gunner Solskjaer who was unbelievable. He would find little pockets of space on the pitch that you didn’t know existed. That’s the most uncomfortable game I’ve ever had against someone.

Q. Quickest player at the club?
A. I’ll go for Junior (Smikle).

Q. Best and worst dressed player at the club?
A. The best dressed, not including myself would be Luke Summerfield. Worst... I’m going to say Mo (Kaid Mohamed), not because he wears bad clothes but because he has so many styles, it’s hard to keep track! He’s also got a pair of yellow trainers!

Q. One for the future?
A. There are a few but I think Jimmy (Spencer) - if he keeps doing what he is doing, will play at a very high level. Jack (Butland) is another who is destined for big things.

Q. Strangest moment whilst playing a game?
A. When I was at Hereford, we had to delay this kick off by 15 minutes because there was a dog on the pitch! The stewards were chasing him around for ages, then one steward simply walked up to it and said ‘sit’, and he picked it up straight away!
