The Cheltonian speaks to David Gregory about the high octane world of motorsport

Cheltenham born and bred, David Gregory returned to his home town a decade ago to start the latest chapter in his career; culminating with the launch of David Gregory Associates (DGA) a high end consultancy for international motorsport.

David’s always had a passion for motorsport. In the 80s and 90s he was an award-winning rally driver risking his life at many of the famous circuits across Europe including Nuremburg, Le Mans and Ypres. When David decided it was time to come out from behind the wheel, he knew motorsport would be at the heart of his professional life. Blending his technical knowledge and commercial ability, he began working for some of the industry’s most respected global brands including Pirelli, Prodrive and Reynard.

Over the years, David’s work has taken him around the world; whether it was consulting to Pirelli’s head of motorsport in Milan, working with Toyota or Honda’s HQ in Japan or managing commercial relationships with motor manufacturing giants like Ford, Chrysler or GM in the US.

When David decided to establish DGA in 2010, he chose Cheltenham as his base: “I decided a few years ago that Cheltenham would make an ideal location for my business. Yes, it’s my home town and so will always be special to me because of that, but on a commercial level the local workforce is highly educated and motivated, the standard of living is great and there’s easy access to great transport links so we can meet our partners or go see the latest piece of engineering as soon as we’re needed.”

This last point is critical to DGA right now as much of their focus is spent promoting Ireland’s official sports car team, who’ve had a great year leading their class for much of the season and handling commercial relationships for the MiniWorld Rally Team. There’s no doubt that the future is bright for the world of motorsport, whether you look at the resurgence of rallying or the ever-expanding F1 world circuit, and we’re proud to say that part of that future success
depends on one of our local businesses.
