The ultimate body cleanse

Sarah Morgan visits The Hydrocleanse Clinic in Cheltenham

Colonic Hydrotherapy (or Irrigation) is still a fairly taboo subject, despite being offered for many years now in health clinics across the UK. I have many friends who have had the treatment before, and without exception they have said just how cleansed and on top of the world they felt after it had been done. So I thought it was time to give it a go and booked with The Hydrocleanse Clinic in Charlton Kings Cheltenham. Apprehensive was not the word. When the morning came I had already been advised by the very helpful staff at Oakwell Health to eat lightly and not to drink any caffeine – well that was challenge in itself! So off I trot in trepidation of what was to come.

I shouldn’t have worried. From the moment I arrived Jayne made me feel completely at ease, explained what she was going to do, how she was going to do it, the benefits, and the size of the tube she was going to use – I am pleased to say it was only a few millimetres in diameter!

Colonic Hydrotherapy provides relief for a number of different ailments. The obvious ones include constipation & bloating, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), water retention and poor immune system. The not so obvious ones are lethargy, allergies, halitosis, headaches, depression, back pain and insomnia. The most surprising benefits are improved skin conditions and increased energy levels. Jayne mentioned during the treatment that some of her clients actually book a colonic INSTEAD of going for a facial. The last benefit – wait for it ladies and gents - is weight loss! One of Jayne’s patients actually lost 9 POUNDS after just one session.

The treatment itself was surprisingly relaxing, once you get over the thought process of what will be leaving your body. I will not go into detail as you can find out for yourself, but the basic method is as follows; the tiny, disposable tube is inserted into your bottom, filtered warm water goes in, your body is naturally stimulated, and the contents of the large colon are evacuated. Jayne massages your stomach which helps you relax and the modern, state-of-the- art equipment allows you to maintain the utmost dignity throughout the process.

After around 40 minutes the treatment was complete. After skipping out of the clinic I realised I felt half a stone lighter, had a flat tummy, and overall felt totally cleansed and completely rejuvenated. I am very much looking forward to three months time when I will absolutely be going back, and I couldn’t wait to get on the scales...
