sk:n - Laser Hair Removal

I’ve never been a big believer in the saying: ‘It does what it says on the tin. I’m a bit of a sceptic. So when my nurse at sk:n told all about laser hair removal, the benefits, preferred skin types, the ideal hair colour etc. I still didn’t really believe it was going to work wonders....well, so far, so amazingly brilliant, miraculous, fantastic – it really works!

sk:n are true professionals in everything to do with the face and body. Depending upon your requirement you may see one of their in-house therapists, nurses, dermatologists or doctors. Everything cosmetic can be covered at this clinic and in my particular case, I wanted to rid myself, once and for all of my unsightly underarm hair.

A consultation and skin assessment was followed by a small zap with the laser. This is so they can test the skin against any abnormal reactions. After 4 to 6 days you are invited back to the clinic and hopefully have the full treatment. My underarms were shaved, protective glasses donned, and the laser sprung into action.

I think I was expecting it to be less painful than waxing and although I was told the sensation would feel like elastic bands being fired off, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt. The pain in fact comes more from the cold blast of air onto your skin than from anything else. It isn’t, by any stretch, unbearable – the worst part in actual fact is the smell of burning hair – but, at just under 1 minute per underarm...after childbirth, the dentist, slamming your hand in the door, this was a walk in the park on a sunny day!

I have now had my second treatment and I am totally flabbergasted that the hair growth in
between my 6 weekly visits was almost nil. I counted only 3 hairs under one arm and none under the other arm. This, I was told, would be due to the fact that my hair, (coarse and dark) was the preferred type and that in actual fact, the hair had been initially stunned and it would no doubt start to re-grow more profusely this time. However, Faye my personal sk:n nurse believes I have had at least a 20% reduction.

I am so impressed with the results that I am considering having my facial hair removed as well. I cannot wait to be hair free this summer...

Bring it on!
